Henry Miller

was a veteran of World War I who lived in Mooresville, North Carolina

From display card: Henry Miller (born 1895) was a veteran of World War I who lived in Mooresville. He served in Europe during the war and, upon his return from service, took a job working for the railroad, which he missed a great deal after he retired. He looked upon his work not as a job but as providing an important service.

His was raised on the family farm, just south of town on Coddle Creek Road in Mooresville. He served in France with the 366th Machine Gun Company, and was on the front lines in Germany on November 11, 1918.

After the war he worked as a section hand for Southern Railway, under the direction of Elmore Bailey, for 18 years. He was a member of Bethesda AME Zion Church on Shearer's Chapel Road where he was a member of the choir and chairman of the board of trustees.
He married Mabel Johnson and they had five children: Mildred, Jimmy, Robert, Pearline and Freddie.
