Them Glorious Ones.
I've always been in awe of the might of Black Women, their regal nature amid the ugly of a world intent on minimizing them... is poetry of the highest order.
The example set by the women in my Family is a long one.
Chicago (circa 1945)
My Bigmama and her sisters my Great Aunts, were proud and mighty women who weren't with the shits.
They got those notions of proud from the other women in the family, my (their) Aunt Lea was who they followed North during World War II, she was established there and told her nieces about the promise that Chicago offered.
And my Bigmama was always apt to tell me when she recalled this story:
"... I wasn't about to work in no white woman house where they was gonna treat me worse than the blamed dog, fuck that... I had my own kitchen to tend to! You could get factory work with a pension and I said, Shit... Chicago, that was the place for me."
