A brother and sister from Merry Hill, NC settled in two different States (VA & PA) where they were business owners, active with their church communities, and supported the education of black children.
Serena P. Outlaw Smallwood was my great-grandmother. She is one of many accomplished members of York's black community who are interred at Lebanon Cemetery in North York. There is a blacksmith museum in Onancock, Va that is the original shop of her brother, Samuel D. Outlaw, Jr.
