Moses Davis Bigelow was born on 16 August 1900, in Caswell Co, North Carolina, as the son of Julius Bigelow (1856–1920) and Catherine Hurdin, (1870–Deceased).

Census records show him working as a laborer on steam rail lines in 1930, and later as a custodian. Moses also stayed connected to farming by working land that he rented. Moses and Luella were connected to their Baptist church community. In Luella’s obituary, she was remembered fondly as “The Mother of the Church,”

He died on 5 July 1981, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, United States, at the age of 80, and his family brought him home and buried him in Sassafras Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Covington, Caswell, North Carolina, United States.
