Julia Ann Kemp was born on 6/2/1854 and died on 1/22/1948 at age 93.
She married John A. Harris in 1887 in Wilkes.
Aunt Jude was the daughter of Matthew Kemp (b1806) and Mary Eveline Felps/Felts/Fitch. This family lived near the Wilkes/Iredell county line.
The 1870 census lists them with son Harrison, daughter Nancy, and three younger girls including Julia (age 13). Everyone in the household is listed as white.
She and her family were enslaved in Wilkes County, NC by Dr. Thomas S. Bouchelle (1802-1843) and his wife, Clarinda.
Julia has not been found in the 1860 census, and that makes sense if she was born into slavery.
She also hasn't been found in the 1880 census. Her 1948 death certificate lists both parents as "unknown". It's possible that she was adopted by the Kemp family at the end of the Civil War.
