Mrs. Margaret Spaulding Shearin - Chamberlain Music Studio - Durham, NC
Mrs. Shearin named the studio after a beloved teacher at Fisk University, where she had trained in music.

Mrs. Margaret Spaulding Shearin established the Chamberlain Music Studio and taught piano for over six decades. Generations of Durham & area students learned the piano under Mrs. Shearin.

Margaret (Spaulding) Shearin (Born 30 Jul 1901 in North Carolina - Died 12 Jan 1989 at age 87 in Durham, Durham, North Carolina)
She was the daughter of Charles Clinton Spaulding and Fannie (Jones) Spaulding.
Her father was General Manager and later President of the North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company. She attended the Scotia Academy in Concord, North Carolina, which was established in 1867 by the Presbyterian Church to provide education for African-American women. She also trained in music at Fisk University, and directed music at the North Carolina College for Negroes.
Margaret married Alexander Moore Shearin, the son of another prominent Durham family, in Durham in 1926. They continued to live in Durham, where they had two sons by 1940. Margaret was widowed when Alexander passed away in 1946. Margaret passed away in Durham in 1989 at the age of 87.
