Hillside High School

Durham, NC - Vocational education

Well built homes still standing today
Vocational education was a life saver for young Black students to lead productive lives. The trades classes taught at Hillside High School in Durham, NC launched many a career for our young people and provided a pathway for stability and wealth building. Vocational education in the trades is still a necessity today.

ca. 1970's - An historic photo of Hillside students who built several beautifully constructed homes on Lawson Street just south of the original Hillside High School location. The houses between the old Hillside building (NCCU building now) and Roxboro rd.
