Cary Colored School 1883-1935 - Cary, North Carolina
This is a tribute to the early African American educators and students at the Cary Colored School, which sat just south of the Cary Arts Center.
Notable families include the Arringtons, Meadows, Jones, and Evans. When the original structure was destroyed by fire in 1935, the African American community formed a school committee and on land donated by the Arrington family, built the first Cary School specifically for African American children.
Today, Kingswood School stands on the spot where the new school was built in 1935.
