Booker T. Washington high school in Rocky Mount, NC. was a prominent segregated African American secondary institution operating from 1927 until 1969 when it was closed as a Black high school when students transitioned to Rocky Mount High School.

The historic campus located on Virginia Street now functions as a community center and holds a rich local and national civil rights legacy.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. visited the campus and delivered an early version of his "I Have a Dream" speech in the school gymnasium in 1962.

The former campus on Virginia Street was converted into the Booker T. Washington Community Center serving community programs and neighborhood activities.
