Chavis Park
Chavis Park, Raleigh, N.C., Named for John Chavis, a noted preacher during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the park was dedicated in 1938.
It was built by the federal Works Progress Administration for African Americans during the Jim Crow era.

It was built by the federal Works Progress Administration for African Americans during the Jim Crow era.
Consisting of 29 acres, it featured picnic grounds and pavilions, a swimming pool, bath house, ball fields, a carousel, and more.
It drew families and individuals from all over the region. In 2016 the park was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
