Danita Michelle Brown graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Architecture in 1983 and a Master of Architecture in 1987.
When revisiting the university for a 2021 architecture forum discussing the experiences of students of color, she recalled her mixed feelings as a student:
“I felt supported here, but at the same time I felt I didn’t belong. To hear there’s now a support system for students of color is very encouraging. I also feel encouraged that Clemson is now acknowledging its history…It’s very interesting to be here. It’s quite emotional. But I’m very encouraged by what I’m hearing and what I’m seeing.”
Brown served as Principal Architect at Danita M. Brown Architect, Inc. from 1997 to 2009, and as Historical Architect and HBCU Project Manager with the National Park Service from 2009 to 2020.
Since 2020, she has been a Historical Preservation Architect at the General Services Administration in Atlanta, Georgia.
