Mr. Walter Lewis McNair - Pharmacist
McNair was the first African American pharmacist in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Walter Lewis McNair was born in Hamlet, N.C (1868-?) He received his elementary education in Laurinburg, N.C.. and matriculated at Biddle Institute, the forerunner to Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte.
He studied in the Leonard School of Pharmacy at Shaw University in Raleigh, N.C., graduating in 1897.
McNair was a steward on a ship during the Spanish-American war. After the war McNair opened a pharmacy in Greensboro, N.C.
It was first located on Fayetteville Road (now Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive), and later moved to 900 East Market Street. The McNair home was at 429 East Washington Street.
