Goodwin was a pioneer in radiology - a branch of medicine that uses imaging technology to diagnose and treat disease.
Margaret K. Goodwin worked as the head radiology technician at Lincoln Hospital in Durham from 1938 to 1976. She was the first Black person to hold an office in the American Society of X-Ray Technicians, and became the first Black president of the NC Society of Radiologic Technologists.
Lincoln Hospital, was a historic Black hospital in Durham, North Carolina that was created because the Black population of Durham needed health care because of the segregated laws.
It is now called Lincoln Community Health Center.
