When Samuel George "Sammy" Davis Sr was born on 12 December 1900, in Wilmington, New Hanover County, North Carolina, United States, his father, Robert Davis, was 33 and his mother, Rosa B Taylor, was 20.

Robert Davis (Sammy Davis Jr.'s grandfather) was born 1868 in North Carolina, United States. He died in 1948 at about age 80 in Baltimore, Maryland, United States.

Rosa Taylor (Sammy Davis Jr.'s grandmother) was born about 1881 in North Carolina. Her mother may have been a Carnegie.

Robert and Rosa in the 1880 census were living in Union, Rutherford County, near Charlotte, NC.
At the time that Rosa gave birth to their son Samuel George "Sammy" Davis (Sr), the family was living in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Her younger son by Robert Davis was PFC US Army (WWII) Willie Davis (23 Aug 1906-13 Jun 1952), who was buried at Long Island National Cemetery.

By 1950, she was living in Manhattan, New York.

She died in 1966, and was buried in the same Garden of Honor, locked private area of Forest Lawn Memorial Park; other records confirm her death in Los Angeles, California.

Samuel George Davis Sr. was a dancer, singer, actor, and entertainer.
He was the father of actor and entertainer Sammy Davis, Jr.

He began dancing early in life and joined entertainer Will Mastin to form a vaudeville troupe, along with his former wife, dancer Elvera Sanchez. They married in 1923 in the District of Columbia, United States. They divorced in 1928.

They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 1 daughter.

After separating from Sanchez, he took custody of his son, who was three years old at the time.

George married Rita Wade Davis, who became Sammy Davis Jr.'s stepmother. She died September 23, 1982. She is buried in
Forest Lawn Memorial Park-Glendale, Los Angeles County, California, USA

He, along with Mastin, taught Sammy Davis, Jr how to dance and they all performed together as the Will Mastin Trio.

In 1956 they appeared in the musical "Mr. Wonderful."
Additionally, he appeared in two movies, "Sweet and Low" (1947), "The Benny Goodman Story" (1956), and "Sammy" (1974).

Between 1952 and 1954 he appeared in eight episodes of Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin's "The Colgate Comedy Hour."

He died of natural causes at the age of 87, two years before the death of his son, Sammy Davis Jr.
