By using Mr. Lunsford Lane’s (May 30, 1803 – June 27, 1879 - a Black enslaved man who bought his freedom) image to lie and say he invented Vicks Vapor Rub is Willfully Erasing His Actual Life Story.
He Did Not Invent Vicks Vapor Rub. Lunsford Richardson, image on the Right did.
By all accounts, he was a White man.
Now, did Lunsford Richardson steal the idea and composition of the salve from an enslaved person? Yes that is possible.
His family owned a plantation with many slaves.
There are many accounts stating that many enslaved Black people had to "doctor" on themselves in order to survive sicknesses.
There are many accounts of slavers stealing inventions, modifications, and designs from free and enslaved Black people.
But to date, there is no proof these two men crossed paths.
