Dying to be Heard
Written by Dr. Melanie Stewart
Have you ever wondered what it was like to live through Federal mandated desegregation of “white” and “colored” schools? Have you ever wondered what it was like to live under Jim Crow Laws, legally separating people based on skin color?

Dying to be Heard’ a factual recounting, but it is a “witty” and cleverly written book that addresses the struggles and challenges of the 1960’s in Harnett County, North Carolina.
It covers the fight for equality in the educational system and shares little known information on lawsuits and court cases that ruled in favor of Black families, against the Harnett County Board of Education. It is the perfect companion book for public, private or home school cultural awareness lessons on Black History for all ages!
Dying to Be Heard affords the reader the opportunity to follow the journey of a visionary leader from the small town or Angier, North Carolina as she shares her humble beginnings and words of wisdom acquired through the process of public desegregation, during her elementary school years of the 1960’s.
Her story is one of obstacles, tragedies, and struggles filled with teachable lessons gleaned from enduring these experiences. This book was written to reveal the triumph birthed out of tribulations. Trials come to make us strong, tests produce testimonies, and promotion comes from God. There is even more to share in future volumes to come.
